A lesser known fruit grown in Thailand and all over SE Asia. Researchers from Thammasat University's medical faculty say that studies carried out around the world indicate that gac fruit can cure different type of diseases.

One grower I have come across is the Siam Thamakham Healthy Farm in Kanjanaburi.

Thirty years ago it was very difficult to find vegetarian food in Bangkok. There was only one vegetarian restaurant of note, the Whole Earth on Soi Langsuan. Today there are over a hundred. Now an increasing number of ordinary restaurants have a vegetarian menu and serve a tasty meal, in contrast to the bland food which was served as a special order in years past.
